
Don and Jenny Killgallon
About this speaker
The Killgallons are widely recognized as innovators in teaching writing through sentence-level improvement. As co-authors, they have written many textbooks used by teachers within and beyond the United States, all featuring their sentence- composing method.
Don Killgallon, the originator of the sentence-composing method, a graduate of King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania with a B.A. in English, taught English and writing in Maryland high schools and colleges. Serving as a specialist in secondary education, he was loaned to the Maryland Department of Education, where he worked on initiatives for enhanced learning. He holds three master's degrees: M.A. (University of Maryland); M.L.A. (Johns Hopkins University); M.Ed. (Johns Hopkins University).
Jenny Killgallon, Don's wife, a graduate of Towson University in Towson, Maryland with a B.A. in English, taught English and writing in Maryland middle and high schools, public and private, and was loaned to the Maryland Department of Education as a specialist in writing improvement, after which she had an equivalent position for the English Division of Baltimore County Public Schools. Jenny holds an M.L.A. (Johns Hopkins University). She was one of the original fellows of the Maryland Writing Project
The Killgallons wrote 17 sentence-composing textbooks for students, from upper elementary school through college.
Their only book for teachers, Sentence-Composing Teacher's Handbook is a comprehensive resource for validating, teaching, varying, and assessing the sentence-composing method.
Their only book for others, Writing Like an Author: A Study in Sentence Composing, will be available on amazon.com in late April.
